ram cichlids

recently saw 2 gorgeous rams in my local pet store. ive read these are peaceful cichlids, could these go in a community tank or do they need to be with other cichlids.

From what I understand they can go in a community tank. I've been waiting for some to show up at my LFS to get some in, so I can add one to my tank.

Yes, they can go in most community tanks. They do better with fish that like higher water temps (82-84), so I would not mix them with colder water fish. They tend to occupy the bottom 2/3 of the tank, and often push around bottom dwellers. In my experience, they usually do not harm other fish, but chase them around a little. Also, as you probably already know, they require pristine water conditions w/ very low nitrates. My GBR's are probably my favorite FW fish.

I also agree on the GBRs in your community tank. I have them in mine, or had them, now I only have one lone Bolivian ram in my 55, and they always got along with my other fish. I would be careful when adding two males tho as they do get aggressive with each other and chase each other out of their territories.

I love the rams! but would this be for the tank in your aquarium info? I would worry about a betta, Gourami, and Ram together.

Oh then if you have room for a pair of m/f rams go for it. I have a pair of Bolivian rams and their behavior is so interesting.

Congrats, lol.

I'm wondering if your betta isn't really a whimp, but is scared of the other fish. Perhaps if you gave him his own tank he'd let his personality come through.
