Algae eaters for a Frontosa tank?

Hello,

Is there any other kind of algae eater that would be save to put in a Frontosa tank besides LRG Pleco?

I can't think of anything else no. Even a pleco isn't a quick fix. Are you trying to get rid of algae? Look at the source, check your water, check your feeding schedule, and light schedule. Eliminate the source of it or it just comes back. IMO your best bet for an algae eater is a test kit and scrub pad.

If its to clean up food, look into Syndontis catfish, they wouldn't eat algae but they do eat scraps of food. And they do well with African cichlids.

I'm not a fan of plecos as a source of waste control, whether it be algae, food, or poop. Because a pleco produces a lot of waste for one fish by itself. So it kind of adds to the problem rather then solving it.

I agree with what Slug said.
I have been debating on if I should put a common in with my mbuna, but they are dirty and get big. So I am the algae cleaner for my 55g, which is twice a week, b/c of how the sun comes in our living room.

Hello,

Thank you for answering my post Slug and Allie. The Frontosa tank is going to be an upcoming project and I just wanted to get some ideas about algae control before hand. This will be my first Cichlid tank and so I am trying to learn as much as I can before I get started. My current tank has a Rubber Nose Pleco and a Golden Algae eater and they keep that tank very clean and I have not had to do any manual algae cleaning.

125 Gallon Tank

4 Roseline sharks
6 Buenas Aries Tetra
6 Lemon Tetra
6 Serpae Tetra
6 Flame Tetra
6 Black neon tetra
2 Dwarf Gourami
3 Cory Cats
1 Rubber Nose Pleco
1 Golden Algae Eater
