bdn, I deleted your duplicate thread.
Some times it takes a little while until the right member to come along who can answer your question.

I see Slug was trying to help in this thread:
?? about a new fish

It would be less confusing to keep the ID of this fish in one thread.

Your welcome. I hope you figure out what kind of fish it is.

Might be far out guesses, but looks like a Bolivian Ram to me, or maybe a blue acara? Still kind of hard to tell.

does look sort of Ram shaped, plus how the front of the dorsal fin is folded back. i know my rams do that all the time..

can you try and get some pictures that are more clear, or maybe use the flash on the camera to get some a little brighter?

It could be a juvenile blue acara, but I'm doubting it's a bolivian ram from the pictures in both threads. Something about it just doesn't seem "right" for a bolivian, but it's kind of hard to tell.

When I look at those photos I see Ram. If not for the tell tail black vertical line over the eyes that the Rams have, Id be positive. That is the one that that baffles me, there is no vertical black line through the eyes. It does have the black spot and some blue spangles of the ram and the shape is right.
hmmmm..... its still so hard to tell.

If your guy has the black vertical line going through the eyes and I see the black dot with blue spangles I would say almost positively that you have a GBR there.
They are South American Cichlids and should not be in the tank with your Africans.
They are great fish to keep and I had them for a long time, now Ive been keeping Bolivians and am down to one. (I have a hard time finding GBRs and Bolivians where I live.) The GBR can be sensitive to keep, they tend to be bottom dwellers and like to hide in the grasses and plants.
I really like these little guys.. and they are very personable once they get used to you.
But Im afraid you may have to find another home for him because of those Africans you have in the tank.
