breeding

i enjoy breeding my convict cichlids, and i would like to try breeding some other kinds of cichlids, im sure theres not alot of options for a 20 gallon, would imagen kribs and keyholes, but proubably not a whole lot of africans and most Sas and Centrals would get to big, but i was just wondering, otherwise, i could eventually invest ina larger breeding tank for stuff like that

Kribs do have fry freely however Convicts 1) require hard water and Kribs require soft water 2) Convicts are aggressive to other fish 3) Convicts are American whereas Kribs are African and the two should not be mixed.

Keyholes grow to 4 to 5" can be kept with tetras for example and are American Cichlids but I would not recommend mixing with Convicts - as Convicts are best in a tank on there own.

I would recommend a new larger tank 50g if possible which gives so many more options for stocking all types of fish.

convicts are fun easy breeders but as freshwaterguy stated, nothing can go in a 20 gal with a mating pair of convicts ...they will stress or kill a fish severely ....i have my mating pair in with my oscars n dempseys now ...and they hold their own even against them got pics? I lovvvvve pics

im not going to put them in the same tank, so theres no need to tell me that they woudnt mix.i prefer to have a breeding tank with a pair or a trio depending on if there pair forming, beucase then i dont have to deal with agression to other tank mates during spawning, and a 20 still isnt that big to begin with. and freshwater guy, now convicts require soft to nuetral hardness, and i have soft water and have had my convicts breed in soft water.

Dwarf Crenicichla (Dwarf pikes) or Checkerboard Cichlids would be my choice SA/CA wise. African i'd probably look into shellies or julis. If it were me.
