Question about my Red Fins. Does anybody know if the Male will "look different" when wanting to spawn? The other day we were eating and he was shaking/shimmying over one of the flat slate rocks we have and his head which is usually blueish/purple was almost a pale blue with a dark stripe that matched the one that goes through his eye. When we went to take a picture, of course he hid, but when he came back out, he was his normal colors. He was also following the same female around. Any ideas? lol Might need to separate these 2.

This site has pix of red fins in various "stages". They have different coloring depending on what they are "doing." I'm not an expert on red fins, but have done a bit of reading on cichlids. Apparently breeding dress, courting dress and everyday attire are all different. Shaking/shimmying is a way to entice the female to look at him. This breed spawns on a flat rock, so his behaviors suggests he is ready - if the female will cooperate

How is the female taking all this attention?

I have looked at that link before. Especially when we first got them and didn't know what they are. Thank you. The female seems kinda like "whatever" right now. She just spit out a bunch a couple weeks ago and we still have the first batch now about 3-4months old. I guess it was just that I have never seen him like that. I've seen him doing his little dance but the head changing pale was kinda weird especially with the rest of his body staying the same color.

I didn't really notice it the first time i looked the the pics on that link , but his head looked like the "courting male".
