Tank is looking better but new dilemma

Well we did a 25 gallon water change yesterday and again today and will again tomorrow The tank looks great!

We were discussing what Mark had posted about getting rid of a few fish but we were not sure which ones. Well last night the Red Top ripped apart one of the Firemouths so we are going to take the male and female Red Top's back to the store. They are way to aggressive They shouldn't be in the tank with the other fish we have so that should help us get the tank back on track.

I posted some pictures of the JD and the Red Top.

I have a question about the convicts. Will they keep breeding one batch of fry after another? I don't know if I want baby fish all the time. It seems stressful for the whole tank as well as the convicts. It has been an amazing thing to watch. They take such good care of them! The cutest thing was every night they would round up ALL the babies and put them in the hole that they dug. You didn't see one baby! The next morning they would all be out. It was as if she tucked them in at bedtime LOL

Thanks again for everyone's help!

Yes convicts will breed like rabbits...and they will continue to stress out other fish thats even close to them in the tank ...it is a great thing to watch them take care of their fry tho..I agree..so either separate them, or get rid of one...thats if you dont want any more fry

Beautiful JD in your photos, Irisheyzs. Can you tell me how old it is and how large it is?
I have a baby JD and firemouth as well, and really like them. Just wondering how long it takes for them to grow as large as yours.
thanks

Thanks!
The JD is about 6 years old. He was about 1/2" long when we got him. Now he's about 8" long! I think he looks like a Lite Bright LOL I don't know if it is because of his age but he is fine with the other fish.

Yes, your JD looks like a lite bright.. and I have to say that he has beautiful speckles on him. Its hard to imagine a JD at about .5 inches long lol...
My lil girl ( Jackie of course.. lol) is about a little more than 2 inches and less than 2.5 inches right now. The firemouth that is with her is about 2.5 inches, and they have been together in the same tank at the LFS alone so they are pretty much pals at this point. I have no problems with them. I have my two in a 29g grow out tank, I have heard that the JD grows slowly. Can you let me know at about what age, if you can remember that he grew to a good size? Im just trying to figure out how long I have before I need to think about saving for a larger 55 tank for the two of them. A year? six months? I just dont know..
thanks for the help!

He was extremely small when we got him. I didn't think he would survive. I think about 1 1/2 2 years before he was this size. I'm not sure if they grow depending on the size of the tank or if they just grow! They are beautiful fish!
My remaining Firemouth is about 1 1/2" at this point. The male convict I have is only about 1" and he's a proud papa LOL The female is about 2". They're fun to watch.

Good luck with Jackie!
