Cichlid ID Help

I saw this video online and was wondering if anyone can help with identifying the "star" of the show.

http://media.putfile.com/New-Cichlids-Feb-7-2008

I really love cichlids and want to research alot before I try to get any. I currently have a betta and a few tetras in a 10g, but a friend of mine has tanks from 20g-75g that he is willing to give me. I would love to set up a cichlid tank at home (my 10g is in my office at work).

That could very well be the one. The coloration is a bit different, but the shape looks very similar, and the fin anatomy looks quite similar. Are "Cutteri wigglers" cichlids? Are they very much a specialty item that you can't get?

Thanks for the info Butterfly. The reason for the underlining is that is all a link to a yahoo address. Is that an American or an African cichlid? My pH is on the high side (over 7.6) so I think I would need to go with African cichlids - if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks again for the help.

OK, I did some searching on "Cutteri" and found that the Latin name is Archocentrus spilurum. I could not find anything on the genus Cryptoheros. Unfortunately, cichlidforum.com recommends a minimum 6' long tank for them. I do not have that kind of space. I may be able to get my hands on a 55 gal, but I don't think those are 6' long. I may need to re-think this cichlid tank - I am glad that I'm researching FIRST!

That is an African cichlid from Lake Malawi, some sort of Aulonocara/peacock species.
It definitely isn't a central American.

Your tank is all africans from what I can see. You should add some more fish 1 male to 3 females.

I have been checking out the Lake Malawi cichlids. That is not my tank. I wish it was! I love the livestock in that tank. I personally would aquascape a bit differently, but the livestock is absolutely breathtaking.

Is there a problem with having all males in a Malawi tank? When I do set one up, I will probably not want them to breed (at least not right away). I have very little space to dedicate to the aquarium, and MTS is not an option for me.

Aquabid - I understand the color is a little different depending on their collection point.

No problem if you want an all male tank. Just make sure they are ALL male...or the poor female(s) will be tormented to death.
