We got our first Cichlids!!!

Im so excited! Tested the water, no nitrates, no nitrites, no ammonia, no clorine, pH 7.8 PERFECT! Water temp 77.6... SO.... WE got our first set of cichlids! (of coarse I had to talk my hubby into a new filter today too to add to it we got a Eheim)...
We got 5 for the tank today to get us started, 1 yellow lab, 1 orange peacock, 1 yellow aceci, 1 cobalt blue zebra, and one orange honestly I think he is just a hybrid.
They are all small about 2 inches long and they are getting a long great! I have a huge rock wall built for them and they are "claiming" their caves already. I had 2 plecos in there hopefully peace will remain!
They were playing peekaboo with us in their caves!
I am in LOVE!!!!! I am soooo glad we got cichlids now they are sooo my favorite fish! I knew what I was getting into temperment wise where my mother had them for 5 years... I just wished I listened to her when she said for me to get them for my tank!
I will be taking pics tomm!!

I am so glad that you are enjoying them. They really are so much fun. I recently stocked my cichlid tank too and I love them. It is by far my favorite tank. Good luck with your new fishies! I can't wait to see pics.

Thanks... I had bets w/ my husband last night about which cichlid we would find stripped down to a skeleton on top of the water... I told him last night I didn't trust them.. but we were both surprised the agression level is low compared to what I thought it would be. The funny thing is the smallest one in the tank the yellow acei I know I am spelling his name wrong, is going to be the biggest one (species wise) and they pick on him a little... I guess he will show them up at adult age!

Size has nothing to do with aggression. I'll never forget the sight of a 1" zebra chasing an angelfish around a 55. The angelfish was large enough to turn around and swallow the wee terror...

Yeah I know what you mean. My tank of Cichlids is new and they are all jouveniles at this point. No aggression so far. Just a little bit of chasing. I don't know if that will change as they get older or not. It's funny cause I heard that Electric Blues are really aggressive and at this point, mine is the most peaceful fish in the tank. My yellow lab who is supposed to be super peaceful has been seen chasing a few of the bigger fish around the tank. They are so funny
