Blue Morph Fries & Eggs???

Hello All,

May i request you some experts to look my thread in the page

what the Fries are in my Tank ? under the breeding fish section. the topic is " what the fries are in my tank"

The context is : I have swordtail, zebra danios, Blue morphs and Rosy barbs in my tank and i got some 50-75 tiny fries. I have separated the adults. after separating them i observed many tiny eggs moving frely inside my tank. there are around soem hundreds. it's around 10-12 days that i have separated the adult fishes and the eggs are still there. i dunno what the fries and eggs are...i mean what species they are. some fries are looking like Zebra's as i could see some horizantal lines over their body. earlier the fries were very tiny and stciking to the walls. now they are freely moving. but some of the eggs are still there in my tank for the past 12 days and am really confused what's going on in my tank. Cobetta couple suggests that it could be Blue morph's eggs. BMs i had the school of 5 but lost three sometime back one by one and i have now only 2. I heard all the fish eggs will hatch in a day or two which is very contrary in my case. Best Advice required.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Sunda Well, it's hard for me to say/know what kinds of fish the eggs/fry that you have are. All tiny eggs and fry look the same in the beginning. If you have various species mixed up, I guess the only way for you to know which eggs/fry are what types of fish is to wait for them to grow up. As they grow and develop, they'll start looking more and more like particular fish kinds (whatever the kinds they are). My baby Angels didn't look like Angelfish in the beginning either, lol . Only I didn't have them mixed up with other fry, so that's how I knew what they'd grow into, heh .

Some of the mouth brooders hold eggs in their mouth that long, however, those fish would not be advisable to house with livebearers without causing all sorts of problems. We've (Dino and I) have never heard of a successful instance of keeping rift lake cichlids and livebearers together. The previous statement is made because the mouth brooders are the only egg layers that I can think of that have eggs that stay eggs after 10-12 days.

Could you give more information on what you are calling a blue morph? Perhaps if we had the scientific name we could advise better.

Hi Isabella and CWC.

Thanks for the advice. I think the zoological name for the blue morphs are
Pseudotropheus socolfi.

BTW, the eggs are still doing active in my tank or
(dunno what expression to show ?!?!) and am eagerly waiting for the fries to come out from them.

Have the eggs that are still in the tank turned white, or are they still their original color?

IF they turned white that means they were not fertilized and/or bacteria got to the egg and it is no longer any good.

Can you come up with another word for active?

I do not understand what you mean by that.

If they are socolfi. You need to get them a tank of their own. African cichlids should be kept in a species only tank. Good thing there are thousands of Malawi cichlids.

Hi CWC,

The eggs are still in their original color. They didn't turned white. they are pale yellow in color right from their day one.

Dino, Active what i meant is, the eggs are freely moving in my tank. I also can able to see some small tiny thread like thing vibrating at the tip which i can able to see thru. lens.

Ta.
