African cichlids... 20 Gal sufficient?

I have a 20 gallon aquarium in which I was planning on putting some African cichlids. WOuld this tank size be sufficient enough for a couple or more? Any information on this topic would be much appreciated. And as alwys thanks all.

Depends on which African Cichlids you would like to keep.

Thank you for your reply. Actually I guess what I was asking was what kind of african cichlids would a 20 gallon tank be adequate for? I would like to have some with bright colors. I especially love the bright yellow ones. I believe they are called yellow labs..? Thanks again. O and to everyone on this forum Happy Turkey Day!

"Shellies" are very interesting and would be perfect for the 20G. There are several kinds but this is my favorite. http://www.shelldwellers.com/index.php/topic,804.0.html
As for the Yellow Lab ( Labidochromis caeruleus) I think (just my opinion ) they need to be in trios 1male 2 females and the foot print(measurements of the bottom) of the 20 G isn't big enough for all to claim territories.

ps The turkey was delicious Thank You

You could have a breeding trio of yellow labs in a 20g. They aren't as aggressive as the other Lake Malawi mbuna. A 20g long would even be better.
You could have a pair of kribs, but they do breed a lot.

I am with Butterfly on this one...get some Shellies...they are cute and small...you can have more fishies in your tank.
Here's some recommendation from a cichlid site.
