Re: Chillids

welcome to fishlore. how big is the tank? otos or corys might do well in there, they tend to keep out of other fishes way and be overlooked by most territorial fish.

Re: Chillids

Well, the response to this question depends HEAVILY on which cichlids you're talking about and how big your tank is.

In general, fish that do well with african cichlids are Synodontis catfish, a few Botia loaches, a few sharks (including related fish such as the Flying Fox), larger Rainbowfish & Danios, most suckermouth catfish (Plecos) and the larger Tetras (the African Redy-Eye Tetra,Diamond Tetras, Black Tail Tetras, and Congo Tetras.) BUT, be aware that some of these have neutral pH requirements but can tolerate higher pHs, like those required by arican cichlids. This is something to take into consideration when mixing cichlids with other freshwater fish.

It can be very tricky, do your homework before going to the pet store, it'll save yourself problems and heartache...

Exactly.

There are many Cichlid species, and there are even situations where many Cichlid species can't be mixed together. As for species other than Cichlids, they can and cannot (again, depending on the Cichlid kind) be mixed with various Cichlids.
