No betta Yet!

The way this whole thing started was when I went to my LFS and saw the best betta I have ever seen. It was a blue butterfly betta and I just wanted him, but of course if I was to buy it that time I would need to keep him in a plastic bag for probably a month till I can find an aquarium. My birthday was coming up and I got a deal of craig's list. It was a 4.6 gallon Marina aquarium and a 2 gallon petcetera brand. I gave the 2 gallon for my friends betta because his birthday was coming up as well and he needed a bigger tank for his betta. I set up the 4.6 gallon in a nice location beside my dining table.



I tried to boost the cycle by adding a cup of gravel from my 10 gallon that contains fish poop for ammonia source and some flake food. It seems good because all the ornament surface and such are coated with a slimy like substance.

Sadly the lid didn't come with lights infact there is no clip or anything to add light on it! I'm stilling figuring that out because I would like to add live plants on it and the only light source is the lamp close to it.

Also the aquarium smells a little bit. I took a sniff close to the water surface and it smells weird but it doesn't smell like poop although I don't know how fish poop smells like. Also the water surface have these weird flaky things that is sort of transparent.

The tank is cycling quick! the ammonia is receding and the nitrite is rising! Seeding your tank makes lots of difference.

The smell is still there and I decided that it smelled like rubber. I don't know why it smells like that though. I rinsed the gravel, deco, filter, heater, aquarium, everything before I set it up. I did add a bit of water to raise the water level and it smells a little better so I think water changes will fix the problem. Of course I wont do the change while i'm cycling. I think the little flaky things floating around the surface are actually the flake food that lost it's colour over time.

Okay so I got a big update... I got a lamp for lighting, completely changed the aquascape and I bought a betta. I will get pictures soon! I'm just waiting for the house to be dark so I can take a good picture.
