What little stinkers..Scared me to death though.
They are all healthy acclimated beautifully and are eating away on squash right now. So far so good but I haven't quit worrying yet. | They just don't know when to quit following that trail of good slimey gunk
check this out Does this happen to any of you too?
Oh by the way their whiskers (rostrels) are soft and collapse when out of water

| I saw that thread..Isn't that crazy!!..lol...I wish I could have caught them in the act. But they are sneaky. I guess it's a good thing there was water on the other side of the trail of good slimy gunk. Now I'm continuously doing head counts to make sure. They are very active but honestly I can't believe how much waste these little guys produce..Of course I've been feeding them a buffet of food since I got them but still!!!!...I can't imagine not doing daily water changes with these guys. They are adorable though so I guess it's ok.
Good to know about the bristles!!. |

| OK, Did another waterchange today..I thought I might be able to get by only doing waterchanges every other day but it's just not going to happen..Maybe it's because the bottom is a bare bottom so I can see all of it but daily waterchanges are a must. I was kinda worried about them not eating but with that much poo there is NO way they are not eating...lol...I put green beans in and they didn't seem to like those so I'm going to put squash again in today and I'll try some other things tomorrow. I'm very suprised at how well they settled in and made themselves at home. Not a bit shy and all of them are very active little things. None were in the filter today so lowering the water level helped but I have sponge filters on the way just incase...
They are doing great today still so I'm hopefull that I won't have any losses. I guess all my preparation paid off, i'm hoping anyway. |

| Fish are doing great..they are hungry little guys..Since I've never owned plecos before all of this is very new to me. But I put some squash in yesterday and their was some aggression between two of them..It was sooo crazy. they are too little to be doing that!!..lol..All of them are super healthy. 1 of them has a split tail which bugs me but I'm doing daily water changes with Stress Coat plus so I'm sure it will heal fast without any complications. I swear they have grown since they got here. Maybe its' just me though. They love the caves all of them are in and out all the time. Other then that, no changes.
Anyone know what the average age is for them to be sexed??..Or since I don't know exactly how old these guys are how big they usually are before showing signs of being male or female? |

| I'm sure they have. That's the reason for the feeding frenzy(and poo piles) They are in a growth spurt and you will see some size differences start to develop probably. Quote: |

| Usually about 2-2 1/2 inches the males will start to sprout bristles. With some species the females have bristles also but just around the lip while the male will have them all over the head. The fella that sold you the BN could tell you more about when his start to show gender.

| As always great info!!!..Thanks so much!!...They must be in the middle of a growth spurt because I feel like i should be doing WC twice a day there is so much poo in there..lol..and I can't seem to keep enough food in there. They all have nice round bellies. I just glanced in the tank last night and thought "WOW..that guy is big"..so I'm hoping they are growing. or maybe he is just the big one of the group. I'll send the guy a PM asking when they usually start to show gender...Or I could be patient and wait..but I'm not very good at that. |

| I'm curious do you keep them all together as a breeding colony of sorts or once 2 pair off do you get rid of the rest? |

| It just depends on what you want to do...I'm just going to have to wait and see how many m/f I get. Some people do a trio. 2 female and 1 male. I would think that would keep the male awful busy though, since the males are the ones that guard, fan and take care of the eggs and wigglers. Males can get aggressive toward each other so it's best to have only 1 male but if you provide enough caves, hiding spots and food they can get along. I will probably end up keeping one pair in the 20, if I get two pairs I'll put the other pair in the 55. I might just try to put them in my different tanks but If I need to I'll rehome the rest to good homes. |

The males would squabble if they happened to run into each other but no damage was done.
I did have two females lay clusters of eggs(they look like large orange raspberries ) in one cave and the male took care of all the eggs

They had lots of plants and hiding places and being a long tank it had a bigger footprint than a reg. 20 g.

| LOL...That's what I have my 6 in now is a 20 gallon long.. I love the 20 gallon longs..I wish I had 10 more of them. I'm not so fond of any tall tank. I'm really not liking my hex..
I bet you had plenty of poo in that tank..lol. |

| Thanks!!!..I'm glad you give it a thumbs up!!..I don't know about sparkling clean but it's as clean as it's going to get with 6 pooing machines in there..lol..Daily WC sure help with it though. Hubby is making me 3 more caves just like that one. Thanks so much for the idea. They are super easy and cheap...Saved me allot of money. Thanks!!. |

| Just an update..The little guys are getting big!!..I can't believe they are growing so fast. I'm betting they are over 2" now. Daily WC really aren't that bad when your only doing 1 bucket full. I'm really enjoying them and can't wait for them to grow even more. They are still eating and pooing machines but I wouldn't want them any other way!!..They are all happy and healthy. I hope things stay that way!! |

| I'm fascinated too Heather..lol..I really can't get enough...Probably why I ended up with a fishroom..lol..
Just another update..These guys are growing fast. Which is good of course.
Everything that I've read and researched said the L-144's seem to grow at a slower rate then Albino bristlenose, which I guess even Albino's grow at a slower rate then the regulars. But these guys have really grown. I'm quite surprised. I can only think that the daily wc and the good supply of healthy food is to blame. Which is very nice to see my efforts are paying off with happy healthy fish. I'll post some pics later. |

| They are cute..lol.. I never thought that I would say that about a pleco but..These guys are adorable.lol..
A moderater of another pleco site has these fish too, and they just breed for her after having them for over a year....She said they seem to grow about half the speed as the albino bristlenose. I guess this is just a very slow growing species. I've heard that from about 5 different people now..So i'm not expecting anything to happen to soon but they have grown allot faster then I thought so I guess that's a good sign. |

| Me and you are soooo on the same page. I'm not a patient person. If I were rich I would have bought a breeding pair but these set me back enough. But I do whatever I can to make them grow fast. Daily WC and LOTS and LOTS of food. Hopefully it will pay off for me. I can't wait for them to pair off. Then I can put the others in some of my other tanks..I'm dying to have one in my 120 gallon..lol.. |
