I have lost my Sucking Catfish

hi everyone,

about a month ago i bought 2 gold sucking catfish called Moose and Mandy. about a week ago, i lost mandy and i don't know where she is gone!!! i have looked under all the rocks, around the tank (incase she jumped out) and even in the filter. since she has gone moose has got very jumpy and is all over the tank.

do they bury themselves in the rocks or something? i am new to keeping them so i dont know.

has anyone else had this mystery?

if you could help, it would be great

How big is the tank? What other fish are in with them? What types of decorations are in the tank? About how big are your two fishies? CAE's are VERY good at hiding...They can squeeze themselves into tiny little crevices and unless you actually look and touch every square inch of every item in the tank, it can be very difficult to find them.

my tanks about 55 litres and i have 2 black moors with them. i have wood, plastic and live plants, shells, and a cocohut. my black moors are about 6 centimetres and my catfish is about 5. i'll have another look inside the tank. are chinese algae eaters the same as sucking catfish?

thanks,

Without a pic I can't be sure. sucking catfish is a term pet stores use for a lot of different bottom feeders. Gold chinese algae eaters look like this -

He's lovely. That little one could be anywhere. You don't have cats do you? Or even dogs? We lost a coouple of swordtails who jumped out the tiny spots at the back by the HOBs. No remains - We think the cats may have found them.

Keep searching

It may be a golden algae eater like mine. Mine started out at just under 1 inch when I bought him/her at Walmart the beginning of this summer. They will squeeze into the darndest places sometimes! Mine is in an outdoor pond for the summer, lots of food and lots of room to grow! I bought two at the same time, the other one is normal colored (mottled brownish grayish). I cleaned my pond shortly after I got them, completely drained it, caught all the fish (so I thought) Wiped everything down, had the rocks from the shelves out on lawn, cleaned the filter, took the pump apart (it stopped working so I had to figure out what was wrong, there was some string wrapped around the propeller part of the pump) - long story short, there was no place for a fish to survive other than in my temp holding tank where I had all of my fish. I had found the yellow algae eater, but not the normal one so I figured it had been got by a cat or bird or something...When I did a partial clean after the big wind/dust storm, I found both. No clue where the one was hiding. It had to have survived out of water, on a hot summer day, in some small little something somewhere that I have no clue where...So, don't give up, it may just be hiding somewhere where you can't see it.
