Male V Male?

I have 3 cherrys. I believe 2 male and 1 female ( I know the ratio is wrong but that how it will be for now) Strange enough is that the bigger male seems to pick on the smaller male and not really have interest in the female. Im pretty sure they are both male. The smaller male is brighter red than the bigger one.

cherry barbs do best in schools of 5 or more. And by your tank info you have a good size tank but it's a HEX, so I'm guessing it's taller than it is long. No swimming space for your barbs (side to side)

I know everyone shoots my hex tank down. I got the thing free with all the stuff I need. I never know how much is good for each fish. I read from a few sources that cherry barbs are NOT schooling fish and may even hide from each other. That is why I only have three. Its strange the one dominate male and the only female swim around happily by each other but they both chase away the little red guy.

Actually just an hour ago I noticed the female and male doing the "love bump". Maybe they are liking each other and chasing the "third wheel" away?

Cherry barbs are not schooling fish, but do need company of their own kind.

It's much better to have more females than males, for the sake of the females. Perhaps you could add 2 more females to your tank.

yea but the problem isn't the female being attacked... its a male

Yes, I know the male is being attacked, but if you had a few more females, all the (bad) attention wouldn't be focused any one fish!

sounds right. Or vise versa: they are schooling fish, but like to be alone as well. so if you got a school of 5-6, they would be happy but not always together.

Yea man, I hate to knock your Hex tank. People get those and taller tanks for the sake of saving space (long tank = bigger footprints and a tanks height does not interfere with floor space) but one of the most important aspects for fast fish is long surfaces to swim across, and well hexs and other tall tanks lack that~

lol I wouldn't sweat it, cherries are only going to be 2 inches as adults. I'm sure they wont be suffering with the space in your tank.
