Cherry barbs & bettas

Will cherry barbs leave my betta alone in my new tank?(the 38g)I'm more worried about my betta than the barbs.

Not likely. Cherry barbs can nip fins.

Hi, i have cherry barbs and i adore them. They had a few guppies with them for a while and all was ok until one morn when i found one guppy in shreds dying! not a nice sight!!

I would definately say NEVER EVER put a betta with barbs of any kind. As i say i love barbs, i have checkered barbs too, i keep my bettas alone in smaller tanks. They need warmer water anyway and florish this way.

I love my cherries and have been keeping them for more than 15 years. None have ever nipped anyone's fins, but I guess it's possible.

I wouldn't keep them with bettas, if only for the fact that the betta would never get any food with these greedy, fast barbs snatching everything!

lol!!! Aren't cherry barbs a dream that sadly don't get enough press!!!!! i adore mine!! i think they look like mini hells angels with their face markings!! LOVE them. BUT they did kill a guppy. Nature so never been cross with them......they make me smile

I put a tiny female betta in with my cherry barbs, and she promptly chased them around and chewed a hunk of fin off a barb. This girl was half their size! Out she went.

Haven't tried a male betta with the barbs. I'm waiting to go from a 10 gallon to a 29 gallon where everyone will have more room to hide if necessary. So it might work in a 38 gallon, but I'd say your safer keeping one betta with dull-colored fish. Maybe if they were all female cherries, since they're not as colorful.

well, I have experimented with this before. I put Tom, my male betta, in with my 4 cherrys in a 10 gallon tank. He immediatly flared up and puffed his gills out and started chasing them all over the tank! I thought it would be the other way around! so I threw him back into his 5 gal. So, I wouldnt recomend it

LOL Butters....

I love my cherry barbs and I love my bettas but WHY CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG? I've given up trying.

(Oh, I forgot; once I did put my meekest female betta in the 10 gallon with the 3 male cherry barbs, and things went swell for a few hours, but then she started showing stress lines and getting pale so I took her out.)
