Hello all -

I have two cherry barbs. Recently, one of them has swelled enormously and its scales seem to be sticking out. I attach two recent pictures. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on with it?

I'm sorry your barb is not feeling well.

I don't have much experience with fish disease, but there was a recent post about scales sticking out.

Does your fish resemble this:

aww im sorry, looks like it has dropsy. Not much you can do, some people try to add salt to the tank, but once they bloat like that they almost always are goners.

Oh - OK, thanx. Is it recommended then to remove the fish, or should I just leave it alone and see if it recovers?

I don't know how contagious it is, but I would quarantine it, just to be on the safe side.

As far as medications, hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in soon.

I would quarantine it if i were you. It can be very contagious depending on the cause(which there are many many causes)
