I have a 30 gallon tank with 4 cherry barbs in it already. 1 male and 3 female cherry barbs. I have heard it is better for them to school in groups of 6 or more, but should I get more females or should I get any more males?

It isn't really necessary to get more, but if you want to you could get 2 more females and another male. The males may spar a bit, but won't do any damage.

Of course this is assuming your tank won't end up overstocked if you do this.
