Cherry barbs bicker a bit among themselves, but never do injury. They are very peaceful with other kinds of fish and should never be kept with any species that is aggressive in any way.

How many to have depends on the size of your tank. The minimum sized group I would have would be 3 - two females/one male. In a large tank, you could have 6 females and two males. The males spar a bit, but never hurt each other.

They like soft plants to spawn on!

Should cherries usually be kept in the 2/1 ration of females to males? I'm starting to plot the population of my new tank, and I definitely want some of them.

I have 6 Cherry Barbs, and in my personal experience, they're one of the most peaceful freshwater fish I've seen Not to mention how beautiful they are, especially the males when adult. Such beautiful vivid red color! I'd recommend to keep them in groups of at least 5 - 6 fish.

Ya, and don't you have them with angels?

Yes I do. And if you're referring to fin-nipping, then I can attest to the fact that in my experience, my Cherry Barbs never nipped at my Angels' fins
