Here's the story from last summer. Pickles my special boy

| Oh Allie, He was a gorgeous boy.
I lost my cat (my baby boy in my avatar) last spring. He had the same symptoms as Pickles but his food wasn't on the recall list.
He was on oxygen at the vets for 2 days before he passed.
I know how you feel, I miss him as much today as I did a year ago. |

| I'm still OUTRAGED at the whole incident with pet food recalls. All of those unscrupulous companies should be SUED for killing so many innocent pets, whom the owners will never be able to replace. All they care about is money - most businesses today ARE EVIL. I'm so sorry, once again, that your beautiful kitty had to die because of those ... God, I won't say the word. I'm furious just thinking about it . |

I can't even look at a bag of Science Diet without thinking of my kitty. I know of 2 other kitties who died b/c of this. My best friend's Bailey and my other friend's Tabby girl, RIP.
Now it's happening with betta and other fish imported from some Asian countries. They are exporting fish with foreign parasite and diseases sending them here bring new things that we don't need in our environment.
Pet wise I think that we, as a North American society should stop dealing with the other side of the world to prevent spreading diseases in humans and our pets. |

| If that's what it takes to keep us safe, I'd be for it too.
I remember I used to buy Science Diet cat food for my Patchy (i.e. Miss Patches) when she was a kitten, but after a while I switched to other foods. I'm so glad I did this. Who knows ... had I kept feeding her with Science Diet, she could have died too! |

| One of the reasons I'm happy I feed my pets organic food. Not that "organic" means "free of disease," but China doesn't have much in the way of organic produce, and the problem lies in the slipping quality control in pretty much all types of Chinese production.
Allie, it's too bad you only had him for a short time. My heart is crushed every time one of my cats gets sick. |

Allie, it's too bad you only had him for a short time. My heart is crushed every time one of my cats gets sick. | He was the first full grown I have adopted and was just starting to fit in with our other 4 cats when he got sick and died. |

| That bites. I know how much work it takes to get a new cat involved in an established "pride." Quote:

Pet wise I think that we, as a North American society should stop dealing with the other side of the world to prevent spreading diseases in humans and our pets. | I agree with the sentiment, though not the totality of the statement. There are Asian countries that take pride in quality and safety (at least one, Japan). Frankly, I am more confident in the safety of a Japanese-made product than I am in the safety of an American-made product. It is not only bad business, but also a matter of shame, to produce a product that causes harm to one's customers.
Still, I agree that we should seriously consider, as a society, whether or not we are going to purchase Chinese products and, as I said when this whole iridovirus thing happened, people should stop buying fish from Singapore until they get it straightened out. If Singapore keeps having problems, I just may not purchase fish that are likely to come from their stocks. |

If Singapore keeps having problems, I just may not purchase fish that are likely to come from their stocks. | I am not ordering any AB Thai Betta for a long time. Our fav LFS orders from China, the same place every time. But some of their fish are from local fish keepers so I just ask, or if the fish look really healthy assume they aren't one of ones from their order from China.
The problem is that there are still a lot of people who don't think animals are as important as some of us do here on FL. They are seen as accessories or decor...especially in China. So they don't have the same level of quality food/life as they should. |

| I agree totally with this action. I just wanted to make sure that people understand that Eastern countries, just like Western countries, differ from each other greatly. I'm trying to avoid buying Chinese products until they get their production values sorted out, and Singapore has lost my aquarium business for awhile. I'll be trying to get my next betta from an American breeder, etc... |

Each country in our world seems to have slightly different values to begin with. BUT the value of the almighty $ is equally important to everyone in any country. In the end that seems to be all that matters, money. |

| I am so sorry about your loss, Allie. He was a beautiful cat. I lost a three year-old dog to kidney disease in January (it wasn't tainted food - malformed kidneys, probably from birth) so I recall the pain of losing a beloved animal before its time. My sympathies are with you and with your darling boy. I agree that these companies should be severely punished. Pets ARE family! We have two elderly cats and I know when we lose them I will grieve as much as I would for a human family member. It wrecked me to have my beloved Emma put down and I'm not even a dog person!
Lucy, I feel your pain as well. Your boy was also beautiful and I'm so sorry he had to leave you. Now I'm getting all teary-eyed and that isn't even like me!
Big fishy hugs! |

| That sucks for them. I mean really that's a long time to have a pet!
Butterball was persian. This orange tabby btw we just call Pop's. I had him since I was 14 so that's 14 years but he was probably at least a few years old when we got him. Cute story: We started out refering to him as Papa because he was a stray who latched onto us when I was in middle school and he was the male cat who was responsible for many liters in our neighborhood. So we called him Papa since he was father to many felions. Now we just call him Pops for short and because he's so old, losing hair and is falling apart physically.
Oh well, I got two more. I lost one, am about to lose one and still have my black cat (Buster) and my silver tabby (Josie). |

I have my four indoor cats 2, 3, 5 and 7 yrs old. These are my last 4 cats and I hope they last as long as my parents did. He was an out doors cat too, 17 yrs long time to live being a cat.
Here they are: Four fabulous felines Last edited by Allie; September 4th, 2008 at 11:01 AM.
