Only in Australia

Are Freshwater Catfish only sold in Australia? they are Australian native. They grow about 3 foot in the wild and 2 foot in captivity. They are also called tandanus catfish, dewfish, catfish, eel tail catfish and their scientific name is tandanus tandanus. they are usually sold about 2-5 inches.

Still don't buy them unless you have a darn big tank. They're really cool looking, but their gigantic.

I've never seen tandanus tandanus in a store, but I've seen plenty of other freshwater cats (that's a misleading name. It's like calling a leopard "tree cat," as if it's the only cat that likes to be in trees).

Hi bad_wolf. You are the only Aussie I can find here, since you have more experience with fish than me would you mind telling me what is the correct price for a panda cory, I'm in Melbourne and my LFS sell them for AU$8 a piece. Have you ever bought any?

I stocked my 155g with creek fish years ago. I caught a cat fish that was about 6 inches. He grew to 18 inches and would eat a jumbo shrimp from my hand every morning. I acclimated him back into the creek It was such a nice fish.

I live in Australia and have an eel tailed catfish. I love him so much. A lot of the profiles on the net say that you can't have them in a community tank but I do and he loves it. All my fish get along really well and I have quite a variety. The eel tail cat hangs out with the silver dollar a lot.

I was also curious as to how many catfish are sold in the US, I thought they may be Aussie only too.
