It may be hiding from the other bottom feeders - namely the chinese algae eaters. Chinese algae eaters can be very territorial and may show aggression towards other bottom feeders. I found an info page on the featherfin catfish that may be helpful:

Do you have any pics of your tank? How many hiding places are there? The clown loaches will get too big for that tank - They need 75 gallons or more and to stay in groups. Here is a link with info on them. http://www.loaches.com/species-index...a-macracanthus Your bala sharks will probably also outgrow your tank. They get to be over a foot long. The raphael catfish is an excellent size as it only needs a minimum of 29 gallons. Here is a link to an info sheet on the raphael. http://www.aquariumlife.net/profiles...ish/100009.asp I would say, keep the raphael catfish and the new featherfin and have those two be your bottom fish. They may get along fine with the eels also. The chinese algae eaters really need to be the only bottom feeders in their tank since they do get territorial. My three are doing ok with the 2 sailfin plecos I have, but then the plecos are much larger than the CAE's.
