| pleco questions, need answers how much would a single common pleco be? 2-4 inches. (AUS $) i've seen them at $49.95 AUS. is that cheap or expensive. it was 2-4 inches. (maybe 5 inches, can't remember)
can these guys live with small fish? guppies, kuhlies, cory's etc.
are they aggressive? or peaceful? i heard they are peacful, but a lady at the petshop said they would eat small fish like guppies. i didn't agree.
they are herbivores, right?
how many aglae wafers a day should i feed a sinlge pleco?
is 55 gallons enough room?
thanks! |

| 55gal really isn't big enough for a Common Plec IMO. They can grow to 18 inchs and are MASSIVE waste producers. If you want a great Pleco to live in a 55gal community tank, I'd recommend the Bristlenose variety, as these only reach around 6 inchs. |

| I have not got a clue what the price of a common pleco is in Aus. but they will not eat a guppy, or a neon or any other small fish.
they will however eat algae wafers, and plants, thye looooove plants, or they love mine anyway.
Thye like their own space on the floor of your tank and they will insist othre bottom feeders get out of their way when they wish to, but in general they are one of the most placid fish you can buy
They can get to between 18 and 24 inches in lenght so as long as your tank haqs space for them to turn around and you have the filtration is place to cope with the massive quantities of waste they will produce you will be fine Last edited by Jonah; April 9th, 2009 at 07:31 PM.

| Like everyone said in your other thread, you really should not get any more fish. |

| yeah, i kinda figured, stop giving me advice on getting rid of fish, MaddieLynn. i can't exactly drive to the pet shop whenever i like, it's like an hour and a half away, and a lot of these fish i've had for ages. sorry to sound rude, but i kinda noticed when they said it was overstocked 4 or 5 times in the past. i haven't exactly bought any other fish recently. |

| Common plecs grow 24 inches. They are only agresive with their own kind. And boy, that sure is a lot of money for a pleco! |

| I paid $5 each for my two sailfins. They were less than an inch long. With in 3 months they were over 8 inches long. They don't bother any of the other fishies they are with ( goldfish, mosquito fish, chinese algae eaters). They absolutely love the moss that grows in my pond. A 55 gallon would be tight for a common pleco. Since they aren't super active, it may be ok. I would have extra filters on the tank just to make sure that they can keep up with the waste put out by the pleco. If you want a bottom feeder that is fun to watch, you may want to consider cories. I don't think they would eat the algae, but the bristlenose you have should be able to keep up with the algae and the cories would add motion to the bottom of the tank. I don't know what other fish you have in the tank, so I don't know how stocked you are. A lot of the problems with overstocking can be handled with extra filtration. The main concern would be swimming room. |
