i was wondering how many cardinals i could keep in my 215 litre tank without overstocking. already in the tank are 5 bosemani rainbows a bristlenose pleco and 5 serpae tetras.

Just curious , was it a pet shop or fish shop ? I've noticed prices at pet shops can be up to 100% more ( double ) than that of fish shops .

how much was everybody else's cardinals cause the only ones i have seen were 7 bucks each.

unfortunately Cardinal tetras cost much more than the smaller neon tetras. I have not seen the Cardinals go for much less than 7 dollars around here as well. Its expensive when you think of adding a large school of them. I would really make sure that your tank is completely cycled before spending that kind of money on these sensitive fish. I know, I have lost LOTS of them myself ...

i have seen cardinals recently for 6 for 25 dollars but they were very very tiny and i dont know if they would be big enough to survive in my tank. do you think they would be ok with the bosemanis? and by the way my tank is definately cycled i have had it running for about 2 years.

I have had Bosemani with my cardinal tetras and they were fine.
I would love it if our Cardinal tetras were so cheap around here. WOW Id have a whole tank of them at that price. I do know that the neons are about that price around here.
Last cardinals I bought at petsmart were 4.99 apiece. So that was better than the 7 or so I paid at a small mom and pop shop.
I just love thier schooling habits.. they are so cute.
