| Stocking ideas for the 125? Im starting a list with suggestions hopefully on what to add to the tank.
Right now I will be adding the fish from my 55 which are:
4 BR Parrots
3 Australian Rainbows
1 Striped Raphael Catfish.
I dont want to add to the bio load of the Parrots with any Pleco's tho I do like the fancy ones.
After reading MPrudents thread on her 125 that is in progress as well I noticed that she has the clown loaches and Cories and I think that would be a great idea as well.
My first thought was a huge colony of corie cats for the bottom dwellers.
But always loved the CL's but didnt have room for them before. Not sure how many I can have in this tank tho, and I also want to be able to have room for any future fish that I may want to try at some point.
Any suggestions?
Up the rainbow count? How would Silver Dollars work? |

| Not sure if they would be compatible, but what about a bunch of kuhli loaches? They are very cool, and you will have sand anyway. |

Some of our members here that have not been around in a long time know my affinity with 'snake' like fish... eeeuuuu I just cant do it! I dont know why.. just cant lol...
Im sure they are very cool... and a nice 'fish' for sand substrate. I just cant get past my phobia of them... |

| Oooops! Sorry! I think they are cute, but I have a weird phobia about the fish touching me! I am thinking about getting those shoulder high gloves that cover my whole arms while I am cleaning the tank! That way, I can spend as much time as I need in the water, and the fish won't be able to nibble! LOL
Well..... Clown Loaches are nice too, and think of the colony of cories you could have! |

O god I hope you don't hate me now, lol. But it is a cute picture! |

| I'd definately go with a mixed school of corys, throw in a few Otos as well.
But hold off on the Clown Loaches, I don't think you could put more than 3 of them in and they are a BIG chunk of bio-load at 36" for the 3 |

My phobia is hard to explain... personally I think that snakes are beautiful with those markings on them and I have no problem with them. I should have re worded my phobia to say that I cant handle 'worms'! eeekkkk.... and small fish/kulies and such remind me of worms. But the larger snakes I have no prb with. lol... Quote:

BUT I will be able to keep my beloved cory cats which I used to have a long time ago. So that will make me happy and I can have a real nice 'group' of them for the bottom. Ive had oto's before as well and with the new tank syndrome of diatoms which are sure to show up, they will come in handy |

| You know what.. heck if I remember! I can't believe I've forgotten. He kept snakes for all his life pretty much, so I shouldn't forget things like that. The only snakes I kept in my young adult life was a corn snake and a ball python.
I'm sure there's a snake guru in this forum somewhere who might be able to identify it!
All I remember is that one was named "Thor." |

Not got a hope I know but you have to dream.
But i am in the midst of a tank / fish swap round at the moment and I am going to put 4 Khulis in the big tank as its ot a sand substrate
Its on hold for a few weeks now as i'm just working on fixing the broken cycle on the big tank Last edited by Jonah; February 26th, 2009 at 09:14 AM.

All I remember is that one was named "Thor." | My niece's fiancé keeps a room with tanks of snakes. Im sure she would be able to ID it. I forget what is the popular kept snakes, may be it is the pythons? But they get pretty large eh? |

| Indeed..
I know he has kept both boas and burmese pythons throughout his life; among other things I thought he was nuts for (he had a copperhead at one point). |

| He liked strange things.
I don't think he had the copperhead long though! I remember him in my adult life having had a cayman, and multiple iguanas. He was into reptiles for sure.. in fact I think the only thing he ever had that was even close to "furry" was an african pygmy hedgehog.
My mother told me he had salt water tanks when I was young, but I do not remember them. |

Most folks that do keep snakes tend to also keep reptiles as well, and is the case with my nieces fiancé . Iguanas are very cool! |

| His were cool.. but they definitely didn't like me. Any animal he had formed strong attachments to him; I swear he was a "reptile whisperer" lol. If I got near his iguanas they'd stick out their neck things and threaten me with their tails, but they thought he was the cat's pajamas. |

I see the Botia striata stay fairly small, they look pretty cool almost have the same CL shape as well. Even the Yo-Yo is a nice looking one as well that reaches only 4.5. I dont know what the rostrata or kubotai look like but can research tham as well.
Thanks for the suggestions! |

| I have a yo yo loach and he is very funny! Quite the character of the tank! I would highly reccomend getting a few of them. I can't have more than one or my tank would get overstocked. I wish I had gone with a 55g to start with, but hind sight is 20/20! |

Do yours hide from the light or do they stay around the tank during the day? Wasnt sure if this species does that or not. |

| Actually, he is the most active in the afternoon. He patrols the back of the tank making figure eights and looking for extra food! He likes to hide in a skull that I have in the middle of the tank. I know that if I had more of them, he would prob venture out a lot more, but he his out for several hours during the afternoon.
He does not respond when I am feeding flake food(other than to do clean up duty!), but when I am alternating with frozen blood worms, ohhhhh kids! He smells them as soon as they hit the water, he sticks his head out of the skull and slurps them up!
We called him the Lorax because his little whiskers remind us of a Dr. Seuss character. |

| I think the 'schedule' for loaches is a myth. just my opinion. Once they are used to a feeding schedule, they'll be out and around all the time. If you provide plant cover, they'll be out even more. They dislike bright light so is often a reason why they dont come out til lights go off. |

| Yes, I never have any leftovers on the bottom. He takes care of that mostly at night. I wish I had video to see how the tank does at night! I bet it would be funny to watch! |

| They look nice Kate.
Is this in addition to the stock in your first 1st post? On the GBR's.
That's probably the only fish I'd consider worth my delve into pH adjusting. Sigh, someday, maybe. lol |

In my siggie has the list of fish in the 125. That and the future GBRs will be the stocking list and I wont be adding anymore. I decided against more rainbows at the moment, since these three now are so large I dont want them picking on new comers which are all smaller in size at the LFS. My husband picked out the platyies and he has finally had some input on what kind of fish to go in one of my tanks..
So the 125:
4 BR Parrots
3 A. Rainbows
9 Red Wag Platyies
1 Striped Rapheal Catfish
5 soon to be GBRs.
The platyies pretty much are top to middle dwellers, the Parrots, well, when they are not hanging out in their pots they are pretty much mid level, the rainbows are top to middle and with the GBRs, who like to hang around at bottom levels, the tank will be pretty full. Not to forgot my catfish who only comes out at night to forage the sand for food.
So that is it on the stock fish for that tank. Last edited by capekate; March 26th, 2009 at 08:11 AM.
