| Building the 125g stand.. Well the first part of building the stand has started. Last night my husband and I went to Home Depot for wood and supplies.
Came home with
2- 8x4 3/4 inch Cabinet grade Oak plywood.
2- 8ft 4x4 studs
10-8ft 2x3 studs
1- 3/4 inch AC plywood sheet for back of tank stand.
assorted hinges, 2 sizes of waterproof screws, catch for the doors and corner braces.I small tube of PL400.
below is a photo of the stand style that he will make for me, without the top canopy tho. I will add photos as the build progress's |

| Hi Shawnie,
I agree the top canopy looks real cool. My only thoughts are, how is that extra weight sitting on top going to affect the tank stability? I havent figured that out yet.. Maybe down the line he can build me a canopy if I can figure out what kind of light wood to use.
An L- shaped stand sounds really nice. How is that going to be used with the tank? Is the tank going to sit on one side of the L? any photos of what it looks like you can share? |

| Wow, it looks good. Are you putting it against a wall or like the pic shows so you can view it from all sides? |

as far as my L shape, ill have 3-4 20 gal tanks going up the wall of the tall part of the L and with my 20 gal long going across the bottom part of the L...does that make sense LOL? ill deffinately get pics as it goes along |

I was thinking that the L shape was all at the same height, if you were looking from the top. With your idea one part of the L will be lower than the top. So sort of like the shape 'L" and not /\ hmmm no keys to demonstrate lol.. hmmm now Ive confused myself! lol. |

Big Rich | My husband is a carpenter by trade for about 36 years or so and is having a blast building this stand for me. But I agree, and I am sure he would as well that ideas are always welcome! Can you tell me where your photos of the tank stand you built are? I checked the camera icon under your screen name but there were no photos there, is it in a thread you may have made before? |

| Hello,
Capekate Strange why couldn't see the pictures. Thanks to Shawnie for posting a link for you to view.
On the canopy Once again I used pine with quick snaps to hold in place. On the flat i used 3/4 inch ply. I made it heavy to limit movement. I had 2 canopies but wasn't happy with the first on as you can also see in the picture. It was way to small. Kinda looking at a person with a big body with a tiny head baby huey like lol. Here is my initial post of the stand frame work. My very first stand

| Hi Big Rich,
thanks for the link and the photos. You did a great job on yours and I see you went with a wood canopy. At some time in the future I may get a canopy made for the tank, but for now, the cabinet will work just fine.
Nice photo of the end product.. you did a great job with it, love the style and extra touches you added. |

| Latest update on photos of the stand in progress. The frame is almost complete and between my husband and I somehow brought this heavy monster up the cellar stairs to the dinning room.. uggghh! Where is my son when I need him? lol...
Anyway.. first two photos show the 'dado' cut that was used.(At least that is what papa smurf calls it, what do I know about carpenter lingo lol) It looks like a jigsaw puzzle with one piece of the wood cut to shape to fit into the other. It adds more over all strength to the stand. The third photo is of its placement in the dinning room. During the week, my husband will work on the rest and put in braces in the middle along with the floor of the cabinet. I have a 'kick' plate at the base, rather than have it just sit on the floor. I liked the look of it in the original photo. More photos will come as it progress's.
At this point, thought the tank was coming tuesday but now it may be thursday, but thats ok, gives him more time to complete the stand anyway. Last edited by capekate; February 23rd, 2009 at 07:01 AM.

| Wow!! Really nice Kate.
Seriously, my husband couldn't even find a hammer let alone use one.
Ooops. Good thing he doesn't read Fish Lore
I'm always impressed with people who can take wood and make it into something beautiful. |

| Thanks Lucy and Shawnie! Im lucky that not only is he a carpenter, but that he will at times build me things that I need. Like the great corner tables and shelf here in my computer/fish/art room. plus the fish bookcase that the three 10g betta tanks are on. Normally you know the saying.. a plumber has the leaky faucets.. the roofer has leaks in the roof...etc etc. Papa Smurf said that he is pretty excited about building this stand is really getting into the new fish tank. So thats cool! Here are photos of other projects he has made for me.These photos are all in my computer/fish/art room. One is the bookcase/fish stand and the other is the 29g tank stand/cabinet he made for me. |

We have to fight over who is going to cook supper because I also am considered a gourmet cook as well, from my experience cooking in a resturant, but he usually ends up winning that battle, says that it relaxes him after a day of work. oooo kkkk.. yes, he is a true catch for sure and I consider myself very lucky and very much in love with this man. |
