BN Pleco Juvies F/S

BN juvies are currently 1.5" or a bit larger (and growing fast), healthy and hardy young ones spawned and raised in hard, alkaline water. They should be breeding size around December.
Browns are $2.50 each, albinos $3.50. At this size I can ship up to 4 in a breather bag for $8 Priority Mail, or larger numbers for a few more $$.

Here are a couple pics of the latest spawns to be moved from the breeding tank to growout tanks. They're at least 1", some 1.25", and large enough to move along now.
The larger juvies from the earlier spawns are gone, except for a few I placed in other tanks for algae control. These should be breeding size next spring.

Brown ones first, some still in the breeding tank, over 100 altogether:

All but a couple of the albinos were netted out, looks like about 50. Count them if you like:

beautiful BN plecos..... do they just eat algae and what size tank should they be in?

They'll eat algae constantly, great for keeping the glass clean, but will also eat veggies (zucchini or canned green beans are favorites) to supplement their diet if there isn't enough algae. They will eat flakes, but too much protein can cause digestive problems. Algae or veggies are necessary to keep their system clean.
You can keep a pair in a 20 long, though a single adult will keep up to a 30 long clean on its own. Males are territorial, but not actually violent toward other males.

I would love some but my 26 gallon already has 3 otos and a snail so algae is taken care of

They do love zucchini, canned green beans also disappear pretty fast.

I assume these are bristle nose plecos? I dunno what BN stands for lol. Do you have anymore for sale? I might be interested. Oh, and do they need driftwood to survive?

Ya, they're bristlenose pleco's, I still have plenty on hand. More albino's than browns, but no shortage of either. They don't need driftwood, just a good diet. NLS pellets and occaisonally some veggies if there isn't much algae available.

More on the way, the male has a new clutch of eggs in the breeding tank. I think the juvie cichlids sharing that tank are large enough to pick some off now, at least while they're still fresh out of the cave.

Hmm I might be interested. I'd have to ask my dad though lol. How many could I keep in a 20 Long with six percillas and two GBR?

You could keep a pair or two female adults in a 20, though the tank would be likely be too small for 2 males. Not a problem when they're juvies, probably be around December before they reach spawning size/age.

Toddnbecka... Things have been pretty hecktic around here lately but I just had to take the time to compliment you on the service I received from you .... The albino BN arrived in Extremely good shape and has since taken over the whole tank....He has decided he likes the hybrid zucchini better than the regular... My betta, Bently, is not quite sure that this isn't just some new ornament and most of the time totally ignores it. I was so pleased at the professional way he was readied for shipping and am convinced that you'all really know your business....Thank you so much again for the BN... he's just marvelous!!

Thanks Martha, I'm always happy to hear that the wee bristles have arrived well and have a good home. I've never heard of conflict between a pleco and a betta, so they should get along just fine. He (or she) should be around for years of enjoyment with proper care and a bit of luck.

Hi. I would love to have some of your albino plecos. I'm new here and don't know how to go about using the PM yet. I would probably want about 10 of them. By the way. How big do they get when full grown? Thanks for the help.

Males grow to about 5", females closer to 4", but it takes them more than a year (probably 2) to reach full size. They're mature enough to breed around 8-9 months, or when the males grow some bristles.

Oh I am watching this thread and it is just killing me!!!! I want some of the brown BNs and I sooo hope you have some when the fish room is done. I might even need a few more ABNs. I just love the cute little buggers. Fingers crossed that they are all still breeding away and I can get some as soon as all my tanks are moved and the empty ones are setup!!!

I still have a couple dozen ABN and a smaller number of browns ready to go. The male has a new crop of babies in his shell, fully developed now, and since the cichlids were all moved to another tank there's nothing to eat this batch when they start roaming the tank. The last several broods disappeared, eaten by the growing cichlids, but that allowed me to make room in the 75 growout tank for more incoming from the 30.

Looks like you're 7 posts short of being able to send/receive PM's. You could post something in my message box, just click my name, then go to "view public profile."
