Bumblebee Catfish?

Does anyone know much about these guys, or have any experience keeping them? Theres one for sale in town and I'm wondering if it would live with any of my current fish?

I was just reading about these guys the other day. Super pretty!

I read that they need 55 gallons min. and they will eat any fish less than 3"!

Hmmm, that would limit it to the Cichlid tank then. Oscar, Severum, Dempsey, Convict, Jewels and..............Bumblebee Catfish? Or would it just be an expensive meal for Brute?

cool fish...a friend of mine has some..if you can find an adult or semi adult , I think brute would leave him be....they are nocturnal and I dont see my buddies often unless he pulls them out during the day LOL

I've left a message for the seller asking how big it is. I think it would need to be at least 5-6 inchs for Brute not to regard it as something I've put in the tank for him to eat. if it's a lot smaller do you think it could live with my angels, kribs, swords, platys and BN Plecs in the 40gal for a while? I have five corys in there too, but I was thinking about moving them to the 40gal guppy tank anyway.

LOL gotta love brute!!!!!!! I know i do ...and if you move the cories, and the bns are godo size, yes he should do ok...just make sure they are true bumblebees as there are a TON of false ones....and im not sure how to tell true or not but I do know the false ones dont get as large ..a true bumble should get to about 6 inches... ...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bumblebee_catfish might help some...

Here's a picture of the actual fish. It's advertised as a 'South American Bumblebee Catfish'.

Here's an article about the name you listed: http://www.planetcatfish.com/cotm/co...?article_id=91

This article is about the bigger type that I initially thought you were getting: http://fish.mongabay.com/species/Pse...s_raninus.html

The south american bbc seems to be the much littler version of the bbc. But that article says they are non-agressive community fish. The article also gives some tips for telling the sabbc apart from the juvenile bbc. Maybe he could go in the smaller tank?

When I was looking into these guys I narrowed the ones I was looking at two one of these three:
Microglanis iheringi
Pseudomystus siamensis (Unlikly though)
Pseudopimelodus bufonius

Maybe that will help.

SA bumblebee cats are strictly nocturnal. You'll almost never see them, and they will eat anything small enough to fit into their wide mouth. Don't put it in the guppy tank...
