Breeding Saltwater Fish - I know wishful thinking, but we gotta start somewhere. Hopefully we can share what we know and learn to improve the chances of other hobbyists routinely breeding saltwater fish!

Maroon Clownfish Breeding Log

OK, Instead of making a new thread every time my maroon's spawn. This will be my main thread on my attempt to raise baby maroon clownfish !

Clutch #7:
Last night I placed my DIY fry snagger into my main display tank. Even though Thrusday night is hatch night. Well after one hour I managed to catch five fry. Tonight I hope for a couple of hundred.

The eggs a few day ago:

The little orange dots are the eggs. Right at the male clownfish's nose.

They turn silver a few days before they're ready to hatch.

The few I caught last night are so so small ! They are the size of (for the girls) an eyelash, (guys) size of a .007 mechanical pencil lead that has just broken off.

Clutch #7 arrived last night without a problem. Not as many as I thought, around 100. This morning all still looked well. I will get some picture up when I get home from work tonight.

Today I returned home from work and rushed over to the fry holding container, only to notice the fry all pointing to the outer edge of the container instead of swiming around. They look thinner and darker, not a good sign.

Photo explained:
1) Fry on the night I caught them in my snagger.
2) Close-up of #1.
3) Rotifer cultures.
4) The 5 quart fry holding container.

Can you see the fry on the lower right side of the bucket ?

Thanks everyone. If been real hard getting the supplies I need to arrive in time for this clutch of fry. Everything has to be ordered online, and that's been a challenge.

I feed them live saltwater rotifer for 10 days, followed by live BBS (baby brine shrimp).

Update:
Clutch #7 is no more. So still having trouble keeping these little maroons alive. I think it was too much light all day Thursday, made them too weak.

These guys hatched last Friday. There were so many I couldn't get them all in the small larvae snagger. This is day four, keeping fingers crossed.

Update:

Larvae Tank:
It day 4 and only a about a dozen have made it this far. That's good news, I usually lose them all by day 3. The survivors are swimming a little better. Not darting so much, like after they first hatch.

Display Tank:
Clutch #9 (4th this year) is here !
Will upload photo tonight.
