Attached fry?

Any of you fishy parents(the ones who have raised themselves), have you ever come across 'siamese' fry? What I mean is that they are attached somehow. In this case they are attched via the yolk sac. Please help me, one of the fry is dead, and I don't want the other to die also.

Re: Attached fry?

wow, that's a new one to me! do you have a pic of the fry? my first though would be to remove the dead fry from the yolk sac with a sharp sterilized knife, but it could be hard to correctly dose the clove oil to do the surgery and still wake up the living fry. i'm not sure there is much that can be done though and you might have to hope the yolk sac will fall off soon.

Re: Attached fry?

It is kind of hard to see the fry even with the naked eye since they hatched at about noon today. The one still alive has been able to turn the dead one aroundso they are not at head to head anymore but now tail to head. I think they will ok by Sunday when I get back from the states.

yea, we've found how small the fry can be so soon after hatching with these betta fry.. best of luck with that one.

Re: Attached fry?

If you can get your hands on a dissecting scope, I'd say slice away. I mean, it couldn't hurt - if the other fish will likely die without intervention.

Re: Attached fry?

It seems to be doing alright as it is, it is trying to twist the dead one off the yolk sac and it is almost there. The only real way to tell for sure is when I look under my magnafying glass and I can even see them breathing.

Re: Attached fry?

I had a platy that had a set of fry attached at the head. Unfortunately, both of them died.

I haven't seen them for a few days, but they could be hiding in the peat. The fry like to hide in the peat until I put food in and they all zoom out and eat, I don't know what ever happened to those 2.
