Picking up baby guppies....?

Hey there!

I had a prego Guppy, when I got home from work she wasnt so much prego anymore...there were baby guppies all ova the tank. I knew it was going to happen some time soon but not this soon.

what can I do to get the babie's out and into the breeder box for now?

They are soo small, i'm not sure how to pick them up.

I also had a thought that I could just purchase some breeder grass and hopefully they will swim into that until they get a bit bigger to swim round my other fish.
Another Question while im here
I have 6 Zebra danio's, 4 Glow Light Tetra's, 2 Pleco's, 2 Kuhlie(coolie) loaches and obviousely A Guppy, did have a male and female but the male got what he wanted then died :P its sad but funny in a way

Most of my fish are herbivors, so even tho my babie's are small, will they still get eat'n by the bigger fish or will they be ok?

Re: Picking up baby guppies....?

The same kind of thing happened with my guppy (I'm a virgin breeder). She was really fat but i didnt want to put her into the guppy trap just yet as i had put her in earlier and it just stressed her out, i wasnt completely sure of the signs and thus i waited, in the morning she was thin!! then we could only find 2 fry alive, and the was one in the filter, now i found a dead one tonigh and am hoping there is one left hiding in the reeds somewhere

anyway, i got 2 Mollies today and 2 tiger barbs to add to my 3 neon tetras, 2 guppies and corydoras catfish!!!
and i think my tank has cycled too but i have yet to get a test kit for nitrates and nitrites etc...

sorry for intruding on your topic but it seemed kinda related =)

Re: Picking up baby guppies....?

thanx for your comment

I find it interesting hearing(reading) other people's experiences and what they have in their tank

I'm a virgin breeder too.

I only bought my Guppies last week, I had a male and a female. the male died on saturday just been but the female stuck around and delivered unexpectedly. I knew she was prego but didnt think anything would happen so soon
I'l know for next time tho

Re: Picking up baby guppies....?

If you drop plants that float into the tank the babies will hide until too big to be eaten. the plants don't even have to be real. Hope that helps.

Re: Picking up baby guppies....?

They will probably do better in the main tank if they don't get eaten. I don't have much luck with breeder boxes or nets

Re: Picking up baby guppies....?

I actually used a small net to catch them, even though it was easier to just dip a cup in & scoop them out. I kept them a day in a small plastic container until I got a tank divider. I only divided a small section for them and I started with 10 or so and now have 7 left (plus my orange orphan). I added a baby golden apple snail to clean up and now, that snail is the biggest in the tank compared to my other 3!!! He doesn't eat my fry-like I've seen one of my other snails-it eats full sized fish!!! What was weird, none of my fake plants were floating, but someone uprooted the larges plant & boom, my guppy had babies!!! They are just about 6 weeks old, growing really fast & the males are already doing that mating dance-it's hilarious! Good luck to you!!!
