Re: help!!!need to breed kissing gouramis

I don't know about breeding Gouramis in particular (but some people on FishLore probably do know), but I think there are some general rules that apply to breeding all egglayers. I have 2 angelfish that breed once every month or less, and they're egglayers too. What I do is I increase the temperature to around 80F and feed them with a variety of foods, as opposed to feeding them with just one kind of food. I think, food-wise, that if any fish is to be stimulated to breed, it's good to give it a lot of bloodworms and brineshrip to eat, combined with various flakes.

Now, do not take my advice as the one that would apply to Gouramis. All I am saying is that I think, in general, increasing the temperature and providing good food, as well as the right amount of space and the right tank size, are good steps to take. You should also find out what pH Gouramis prefer (and the right temperature for breeding). I am sure that if you do an Internet search on breeding Gouramis, you'll find plenty of information. For example, here is one link about breeding Gouramis:

http://az.essortment.com/breedinggourami_rdks.htm
(just type in "breeding gouramis" in your internet browser)

Plus, it's best to put the pair in a separate tank, so that when eggs are laid, other fish won't eat them.

P.S. If I am correct, Gouramis prefer planted tanks and rather soft water.
