HI,

I have a couple of silver dollars in my mixed breed tank, about 2 and a half inches long, quite a few years old now.* This is a new bigger tank then previously and they have started behaving differently since they moved.* For a start they have both developed beautiful red markings on their fins.* One of them has a red anal fin and the other has red bits on all his fins and along the edge of the tail, very fetching!* This second one has also started showing some darker patches on his body near the face, the same on each side of his body.* The difference in behavior i have noticed is that at some point during most days i see these two together flicking and fluttering their bodies alongside each other in a very suggestive manner!!* I though perhaps i would soon have little silver dollars but not so far.* I started to read up on the net and discover that the reddish fins indicates gender - male.* So my question is this: are my two, apparently male fish in need of a lady friend?* Are they really horny or doing something else? Are they gay?

If their both males this may be an aggression display watch for any damage and remove one immediately if there is. If there were a female in the tank she might lay eggs but most likely being in a mixed tank they would get eaten.

Well at least i think they are males.... I make this assumption because i have heard that only the males have red bits on them, but now that i look carefully i see that they are not exactly identical. Is there another way of telling their gender?
