Hey Ted,

hows things? i have them alone in the tank. I left the goldern algae eater in there for the first day but i took it out coz it was harrassing them a bit, so they're all alone. will she attack the male? so far she's just been submitting to him. i dont think i cold handle any other fish, i like the cockatoos, they behave funny and i love their fins and colouring, so i think i'll just stick to these. this time im going to lower the temp to about 25 and see if i can get more males, i only have 2 so far and waiting for what the others will grow up as when they get bigger, but there seems to be alot more females, well i think they are so ha

Here is an update on how things are going. The mum died a few days after the last post i did so i had no females big enough. i put a small girl in but she was too young. then the big male died from cysts i believe. so i put the younger male iv got in with his sister ( i know its morally wrong but i cant get new stock here) they now have eggs under the shell, the male is chased and only had the left side of the tank and only goes to the other side where the female is when i feed them here are some pics..... the eggs under the shell and the male now

and the 1st 2 here are of my big male

I scored a 50cm fish tank about 2 weeks ago for $20 from charity shop wich came with a filter and some other goodies. and i managed to by a male in the shops which cost me $150 in the end because i got a parking fine in the process here is the boy he's apparently from germany coz they dont breeed them here. i have him in with a few of my girls, and one of the females is behaving like she is guarding eggs already which is a good sign

Nice fish!!!! Cockatoos are one of the fasted growing of the Dwarfs. If the young ones seem to stop growing, you need either a larger tank, more water changes and be sure there is good protein in their food....or all 3!! Growout tanks for lots of babies should be as large as possible.
My slowest growing Dwarf was the Borellis and Inka50's.

I have 3 male WC Baetiniata's to get rid of...wish you were closer!!

Did you join ApistoForum yet?? There are always folks out your way looking for dwarf cichlids, and males or females to swap to keep bloodlines good.

Hey Ted,
yeah i joined that apisto forum, and yeah i would like to keep the bloodlines good so i might check it out and see of there is anyone out my way thats interested in a swap or to even buy a couple of females. On the matter of some babies not growing fast, i heard that the faster growing siblings release a hormone that stops the others from growing? not sure if this is true but it does make a little sense as to why some of the babies are still quite small. i have them in the 3 footer, im going to use that as my grow out tank, but i still have lost of other fish in there. but its good and lots of places to hide and stuff. they deffinately seem happy. even a couple that didnt develope properly seem to be doing well. all in all am doing well, will keep u posted. and i'll check out that site and see if anyone in sydney is on there.
Catch ya mate!

Howdy all,

Well after thinking nothing was going to happen, I noticed that one of the females in one of the breeding tanks was actiing funny and swimming around the other side of the tank "opposite to the side where she laid the eggs" then i noticed her little ones swimming around then i checked my other breeding tank and found another spawn of babies. So i have 2 spawns now in 2 tanks (lucky me) so it looks like fun and games for me for the next few months bringing these little buggers up. Any suggestions on how long i can leave the males in the tanks? they are both 2 footers. I want to leave the males in there as long as possible, coz the male in the 3 footer will go nuts when i put the other 2 in there with him,so i want to avoid that squabble for as long as possible.
