Not a "true" breeding thread...

I've been looking to breeding lately and of course one of the main issues is what to do with the fry. I'm not sure what I'll try to breed yet but after thinking about it I think a fish that I could feed the excess fry to will probably be the way to go. Right now my two biggest tanks are a 32 gal with a RTS and a 56 gal that's a cold water fancy goldi tank. So what would my options be?

hmm good question. Right now i am attempting breeding guppies again, and with some fry that i wont be able to keep i will feed to the bettas. They love'em lol

as far as breeding... you could try to breed minnows, or mosquito fish, they are like guppies sorta... only cold water

I've looked into guppies but i'm not sure I'm ready to deal with the number of fry live bearers produce. I've toyed with a few idea's but I'm still undecided ATM. I've been told that WCMM spawn pretty easy and I've picked up a few of them already. when they're out of QT we'll see. I'm thinking something larger then a betta as a culling fish since I'll probably cull as they grow out as well.

true... i Only cull if the fish has deformities, if not, they are either to stay or end up being food.

Hmm... Convicts maybe

I think cons would be your best bet, you can breed them in a 20 gallon and they won't eat their fry.

I would give the fry away to some people at school and make them buy a tank. I have been wanting to breed guppies to get more people into fish. I heard they have about 40 fry.

Cons as a fish to breed? I'd only do that if I had a fish I needed feeders for. I love cons but people have a hard time "giving" them away in my area. Or were you thinking of a con as a fry culling fish?

I was thinking about using it for culling. YOu could put it in with the RTS... you could breed minnows in with the Goldies( they should eat some babies) and pass the remaining fry to the other tank..

Hmm a con might work... would a con be ok with a fish that was fast and around 2"?

I read they usually have 40. That is more people into fish.

He'll be fine. Just make sure that if you want to get something else for the tank, add it before the con. When i had my con, i couldnt add anything because he was so agressive. So, you might want to add i dont know, a school of tiger barbs (you would have to add them all at once) and then add the con. The barbs, shark, and the con would dewvour the fry in no time!

The barbs and the con will hold their ground. however, other fish with an old con, not so good lol
They chase them around!
I would Remove the Shark, add the barbs, then about 5-10 mins later add the shark again. Wait 1-2 weeks and then add the con. They should be used to eachother, Then when you add the con, there wont be so much agression since they are all to themselves. i hope this makes sense lol

Make sure you have lots of plants and rocks for cover, that will reduce the ammount of agression (if they are) between them, and will allow them to start over and have little territories
