Platys-Help

I apologize in advance for this post, but I really need some help.

Yesterday, I thought one of my platys was about to pop, so I put her in the floating breeder, she pooped a lot, and then got skinny.

This morning, my daughter found another platy who looks pregnant, so now she's in the floating breeder and the other is back in the main tank.

However, I had pegged both of these as males before this "pregnancy" thing. I am by no means an expert in sexing live bearers and have researched sexing these guys, but I'm not sure I'm right as far as who's male and who's female.

Can anyone send me some advice on breeding behaviors of platys? Maybe that will help so I'm not playing "musical platys for the floating breeder". I really don't want to stress any of my fish out, but I really want to get any babies before they get eaten in this tank. I hope I don't offend anyone by this, but I'm wanting to feed the fry to my JD since he needs live food and I don't want to introduce disease by buying live food for him. Meeting the nutritional needs of all of my fish is extremely important to me.

Meany, use guppys, I can almost swear the guppys grow faster. Set up a 5 gallon with a ton of broken flower pots and toss in 5 rosy minnows and a lot of java moss and hornwort. Pop in a sponge filter and wait. They should breed for you.

I just went out and got two guppy females. They're in quarantine for two weeks before I add them to my 55 tropical tank. My daughter is letting me "borrow" one of her males until I get overrun with fry, then the girls are going to stay in the 55 tropical and the boy will go back to his 29 gallon bachelor pad

I still wish I could figure out who's what with my platys, though. I always thought they were prolific

BB...take a look at these platy's in the thread below. See if it helps you to determine the sex of yours.

Thanks, Ken-apparently, I have one male and three females. The male is over two years old according to his prior owner (he came with a tank). Is he too old to breed, like should I get another male or am I good with what's in there? The really good news is that the one I "pulled" from the tank is definitely female.

What's so funny is I used that thread before to sex them and thought I had two males and female, so I bought another female a few weeks ago. Mercy, when will I learn?

The guppies should cooperate as well.

Thank you very very much
