| | Fish Helper | help with baby fry one of my female mollies had her babies, I was able to find one and place it in a nursery tank that sits inside the main tank. I t was really cool as i was glancing in the tank at the time she had her baby. The question is how do i best take care of this little fry? this is my first attempt at raising a baby fish. I am currently feeding it ground up flake food and have it in a nursery. will this be ok. any advice greatly appreciated |

| | Fish Mentor | Congratulations on the fry! It's so cool you got to watch Mom giving birth.
I feed my platy fry brine shrimp crushed really fine and after about a week, I feed them finely crushed tropical flakes.
However, this is my first "batch o' babies", so hopefully one of our livebearing fry experts will be along shortly to provide more advice. The above information will help you until they get here |

| | Fish Keeper | i take my freezedried brine shrimp blocks out of the container and there will be a really fine ground up peices on the bottom. i take a little bit of those and give them to my fry. Also i would get a hardboiled egg and take the yolk and crush it up. add a little bit of water and it will become a paste. take a tooth pic and dip it in the paste and then dip it in the water. the eggs protein particles will get quickly eaten up. don't be surprised if he doesnt eat it on the first try. it took my fry a little bit to catch on. if you have any clumps in the yolk mix the just feed the clumps to the other fish in the tank. |

| | Fish Bum | Its actually quite easy to keep molly fry alive. If you want to go all out you can hard boil and egg and remove the shell and all white pieces. Put what's left in a small to medium sized container with tank water in it and shake it up. The pieces will break up and you can feed them some of it. They should go crazy over the stuff. Store the remainder of it in the fridge as they will not need very much in one sitting. Don't forget to do a water change every few days for fry, but really, I've raised mine without these techniques so don't worry! |

| | Fish Helper | she had other babies in the past and did just fine, and all other fish in tank and the fry are fine...so i hope it was just old age and her time, no signs of sickness just a little lethargic after giving birth, then died the next day |

| | Fish Helper | I rescued 2 molly fry awhile back and kept them in a nursery for about a month. I fed them crushed flakes and they did just fine. They've been loose in the tank for several weeks now and they are doing great! |

| | Fish Helper | I let my loose after that long because the net nursery I had them in started getting holes in it and they were going to eventually get out through them anyway! I was afraid they might get gobbled up but they are fast little buggers and now I havent seen any of the other chase them and they are out in the open alot now. |

| | Fish Master | Congrats on the babies!
I have raised fry before, and i am doing so atm. I have ALWAYS fed them crushed flakes, and, some hrad boiled eggs ( in very low quantities since it pollutes the tank) and they just love that stuff. I released mine at around 2 months. They were about 1 inch when i released them ( they were guppies.)
It will be fine in the nursery, so enjoy him! or her |
