a have a single unknown fish fry!!!!!

hi, i have my first ever fry! the type of fish is unknown but i think it is a glofish. i think this because i have 2 male cherry barbs (not a possibility) 2 male guppys (not a possibility) a male and a female marble mollie (a possibility but i doubt it because the female never got big enough in the stomach for me to think that this is a real possibility even though the mollies are always showing signs of mating) and finally 2 glofish that i'm not sure of the sex but from what i know the female is rounded in the stomach (like one of my 2 glofish is) and the male is not very rounded in the stomach (my other glofish is like this). i have him in my breeding net/box thing that i have handy and am feeding him a little bit of flake that i crumpled into dust. am i doing this right? should i expect more fry soon? ill try to post a pic when i can.

: )

How big is the fry? Danio eggs are tiny, and the fry are barely visible when they hatch. Mollie fry are much larger when they're born, and fairly easy to recognize.
If it is a glofish fry and large enough to swim freely, there may be a few others in the tank as well. They are relatively slow-growing, so it's been in there for at least a few weeks already.

Try googling danio fry and see if it matches the pics online.

i am not sure if it matches the pics on google. the pics of danio fry shows that the tails are kind of long. at least thats what i got from the pictures. my fry (who i named surprise because he was a total surprise) has a little bit of a longer tail but im still not sure what surprise is. any other addvice would be great and thanks for the idea to search for a pic toddnbecka

It sounds like it might be a molly fry. Maybe your female has dropped fry before and they have been eaten before you had a chance to see them... could be a survivor. Any chance of a pic?

Well, I was just assuming that maybe your female molly had been holding sperm for a while... the females can hold it for a pretty surprising amount of time (I'm thinking a month, but don't have a ton of experience w/ livebearers) so maybe that's what happened.

Female molies can produce several litters from one mating, storing the sperm for much more than one month. Molly fry have color when they're born; it doesn't change as they grow.
Do you have live plants in the tank, particularly fairly new ones?

i do not have live plants in the tank. also if it was the mollie that had the fry, i was wondering what you think the color would be like because one of the mollies (the female) is the regular marble "scheme" and the other (the male) was sold as a marble mollie but is all black so i think it is a black mollie.

If it is a mollie fry it will look like one of the parents, though not necessarily your male. Most likely it would either be black or marbled though.
