Zebra Danio breeding

Ok...So my friend had a 20 gallon aquarium for about 2 1/2 years that he really didn't take care of at all. About a month ago I moved it to my house. About 2 days ago I noticed that one of the 2 zebra danios was huge. I got on-line and read about it...I have since separated the 2 zebras to another tank by themselves. I put marbles in the bottom, and water about 2 inches above the marbles. My question is this...how will I know when the female and male are done and should be removed? Will the female be slim again? And if she doesn't slim down, when do I remove them and chalk it up to a bad deal? Also, if the male is able to fertalize how many babies will survive out of the 300 eggs? Sorry, I've never dealt with this before and need all the suggestions I can get. Thanks for the help ahead of time.

Welcome to Fishlore

It could be a case of a Female and a male getting ready to spawn. You will be able to tell that the female has released the eggs by her shape. She wont be as fat as she was before. I would try to make the tank as comfortable as possible. Increase the water as if it were normally. Add enough decoration just incase they time from eachother. Provide enough hiding spots for the fry to develop. They are slow developing fry so it will take a little while for you to notice them growing. Dont worry about asking questions, thats what we're here for

ps, is there any way you could take a picture and post it here? that way we will be able to tell if she really is holding eggs

I'm pretty sure she is ready to spawn, but how long should I keep her in the other tank? Until she's laid her eggs? How long does that usually take? (I'll try to get a picture on here tomorrow)
