For those of you that are wondering or thinking about adopting some of these beauties.(which for the record I think you should) . Here is some info on them.

They are a smaller cichlid. They usually get to be around 3"-5". My momma is 3.5" and daddy is 4.5" maybe less. They are very similar to the jewel cichlid but Blood Red's are a different species and are much brighter, especially when in breeding dress. These guys are very aggressive for their size. Another member here keeps a breeding pair with 3 convicts, an Acara, Jack Dempsey and Oscars in his 90. THey hold their own just fine. Like with all cichlids they are super aggressive during breeding and if you have a breeding pair or looking to breed them I would say either put them in a tank with bigger more aggressive fish (you won't get any fry that way) or give them a tank to themselves. Mine are in a 30 gallon and do great. Even though they are an africian cichlid they should be stocked with American cichlids. Here is a link about them

no I dont deal with that tank until feeding/cleaning time..and the occasional babies that I see to grab!!!!

they will be going in my 75 gal sa tank when I ship out some jellys and cons to another member (not sure if they want that mentioned) I just love us all sharing our fin babies!!!

they truely are amazing babies and they can hold their own ..but have hiding spots with bigger cichilds and they will do awesome!

I'll love to, but don't have a tank for them and can't put them on the community tank. BUMP. I need to get out of the NAVY and get my fishroom together. GRRRR.
