| As said they are your fish have fun.
the only problem I have is people doing this then trying to sell of the fry as say a pure strain of fish. If you do it and sell any fry be honest about what you have.
People who are into cichlids, try finding a true Amphilophus labiatus, red devil. Very hard to do these days as they have been breed with so many different fish then sold as Amphilophus labiatus, which they no longer are. Still a great fish that you can buy at most stores, but if you want them for breeding purposes then you are starting off with some thing that really isn't what you wanted to start with. So now you breed them and sell them as Amphilophus labiatus, which they aren't, and the cycle continues.
90% of the fish I breed are wild caught or F1, which some people would never own a wild caught fish and that is their choice, and I get them from dealers that specialize in such fish so I know what I am getting. I do this a s a hobby but the fry I sell I use that money to put back into my hobby so I like to know what I have to start with.
Take flowerhorns for instance, some very cool fish out there by the way however I would never own one. I would much rather own a pair of Amphilophus trimaculatus, just my opinion. Like I said I have seen some great looking flowerhorns they just aren't my thing, as some of my fish others may not like.
I personally think they are enough great fish out there to keep we don't need to make new ones. Having said that though I will agree some of the fish people come up with some are great looking fish. I would rather see people trying to breeding some of the fish that are endangered so that they remain in the hobby but thats just me.
Like I mentioned before they are your fish and good luck to you have fun with it. Just be responsible and let others know what you truely have. Good luck!
