fry tank?

1 of my brothers platies just (yesterday) gave birth to about 50 fry, our first baby fishes. Most of them are in a plastic breeder box (a few made it in to the main tank). We have a 5.5 gallon tank empty at the moment, how should i set it up for the fry, and when should we move them? Is the 10 gal.(80 GPH) filter to strong for this tank? What about a 50 watt heater (smallest i have on hand)?
Thank you for any and all help.

congrats on the babies!!!!!! just love babies lol...find a sponge to put over the intake valve for the filter and the heater will be fine if you have a thermostat on it..(control how warm or cold).cut off some of the filter media in your main tank to put in the filter area of your 5 gal....keep the tank bare bottom so you can clean up leftovers and keep the water prestine...you can keep them in the breeder box also on the main tank if its big enough....but the 5 gal would be perfect for a grow out for them...

Definately bare bottom is best. I have learned the hard way. When you try to get the little ones out they get down in the gravel and there is no way to get them without mashing them. I am going to have to leave mine in the smaller tank until they get big. I wanted to move them out of the breeder tank because I had more fish to put in there to have there babies, but I couldn't get them out. I had to rig up another tank.
