Re: please help ! breeding angel fish

First, welcome to Fish Lore

Can you tell us more about your tank and fish? How large is your tank? You have only 2 Angels, correct? Any other fish in the tank? How old do you think your Angels are? They must first reach maturity before they start to breed, and they must be a mated pair of course.

Generally, when Angels are mature and are a mated pair, they'll start to breed. Good temperature to keep them in is around 79 - 80F. They should also have clean water (very low nitrate or none if possible), and their diet should be rich, i.e. flakes, bloodworms, brineshrimp, etc. It's best to have a sponge filter in the tank if you want the angels to raise their young (sponge filters prevent tiny fry from being sucked in). The two angels should have the entire tank to themselves during breeding time and when they raise their young.

Re: please help ! breeding angel fish

Just a quick question. When do angel fish become mature?

Re: please help ! breeding angel fish

Tomh, I believe around 8 months of age (from what Carol told me, if I remember correctly) and possibly a bit later than that. Angels are still growing around 8 months of age as well. I think they grow for about 12 months (maybe more) before they reach their full bodily mass.

Thanks. Let me reprash that question (I miss typed it). How big are the angels when they become mature?

Re: please help ! breeding angel fish

It depends on the variety - some angels can be larger than others, and I believe males are usually larger than females (or at least my male angel is larger than my female angel). But generally, adult angels are around 4 - 6 inches tall. I personally would not keep angels in anything smaller than 30 gallons.

Thanks. Mine is a marbled angel and it is about 2 inches (main body). It is also in a 27 hexagonal tank.

Re: please help ! breeding angel fish

Hi Isabella ,
Thanks for reply , Yes . I did have 30 different size , but the pair off is around 4" in 20g tank and another 4 pair are still in 2" -21/2" . Do you think I should test PH ? .
I changed water every 2 days and PPM 80-85 .

You mean, you have (or had?) 30 differently sized angelfish? And, you have two 4" angels and four 2 - 2.5" angels in a 20 gallon tank?
