Dalmation molly pregnant

I am beginning to realize that my dalmation molly is pregnant. I did a little reading and she has the very distinctive \_/ shaped belly. I bought a breeding net and a friend told me that it is a good idea to put the pregnant fish in the net (still in the original tank) and let her give birth then take her out and leave the fry in. Is this a good idea? Also is there any particular time of day that she will give birth?

Hi Remmy ..what size tank is your molly in and how many tank mates? I don't know if you moved her to a seperate tank? But IMO, I would leave her alone, put lots of plants for the fry to hide in, and you'll be surprised how many you get. If your serious about not losing one fry, people do use the breeding net/box. My experience and observations are that the box is soon abandoned, due to stress on the fish and soon put back in the community. I would really try plants, and lower plants along the gravel, it'll be a great place for fry to hide..good luck, ohh and no there really isn't a certain time they give birth.

Hello. The fry will need really good places to hide. Too, if she is put into the breeder box too soon she might get really stressed. The Angles will eat the fry if they have the chance. Best of luck.
