My female Mel. Interruptus has been holding eggs for about 10 days... i was planning to let her have the fry in the tank, but dad jumped out of a gap in the tank and died yesterday

so i want to keep as many as possible; pappa was a beautiful fella!
I have a small hospital/
QT pretty much cycled... so when is the best time to separate her and what's the best procedure? i know these cichlids are very difficult to catch, so i'd really hate to stress her to the point of spitting or eating the eggs!
My plan is to take the rocks and 30% of the water out, then transfer her to the QT tank at day 16 of holding. The QT has a little gravel and i can place a few rocks/coral... Any suggestions?? Will the mother eat the fry?
Thanks in advance!
