Baby Balloon Mollies

Hey all,
So yesterday we went to the pet store to pick out one or two fish for our tank.
We decided on a female balloon molly. Take her home...float the bag...put her in the tank...and couple hours later I look over and there she is giving birth!
Well mama didnt make it, I heard that a lot of ballon mollies dont survive the birthing?
My question was...how long do we keep the fry in the breeder box? Im scared to put them in the main tank too early in fear that they'll get eaten!
Also should we be continuing with weekly partial water changes?

I had the same thing happen. My silver molly was in there one day and before she had about 50 babies. (impossible to count). I have three mollies (including mom) in a ten gallon tank. The babies were born last tuesday and in the last week anyway they havn't been eaten. So your babies may be ok in the tank. Someone with more experience will be along soon. What are you feeding them? I've been giving the babies Hikari first bites and crumbled flakes. They are little pigs but they're even cute when they're pooing all over. I've been putting in algae wafers too just too give the adults something to snack on so they are not tempted to snack on the babies.

Yes, you will need to keep doing water changes, probably more often. As the water level gets low you may have to sit the breeder box in the tank to keep it full of water.

do you have some pics?
