how soon

how close to having the fry is this platywhen should i put it in the breeding box

all my platies, are much larger and more squared off when the drop...I cant say how much longer, or even if yours is a female, but shes not close yet if its a gal I hope some other members have more info for you!

It looks like a male to me, but if it is a female then she doesn't look close to me. Could you post some more pics?

that is definately a female. ages till she drops the fry

just to be safe. put it in the breeding box anyway...

it is a female it yest never extends its fins i thought it might be close to haveing the fry because it always hides
could it be my danios makeing it hide
?

to me it looks like a male...can you get a better pic? and if it is a female , she has awhile to go...she will be close when she looks really squared off around her belly area and her gravid spot is nice and dark...

Platies can be pregnant from anywhere from 21-40 days. When she gets near you will see a dark spot near her anal fin, called a gravid spot. She will also look fat and her belly will look squared off at the bottom.

actually now that you have mentioned it. her/his fins are quite close to her/his body. might be a male. i have a female molly that soes that nut she has no male parts

is that platy sick because it rarely comes out of hiding and its fins are always retracted

im not fully aware with platies...again you will have to wait for someone else to answer.

IMO, she may remain in hiding because she may feel that she is not the dominant feminine force in the tank. I can relate this to my tank because the two male mollys always mate with the same female every time and i have 2 female mollys. My other one died. They never mated with that either.
