| Angelfish "dancing"?? Okay here goes...I got 4 Koi angels from Anna at the Spring gathering. I had them in with my other angels all in a 90 until I could get their new home just like I wanted it for them. I put them in last night and yes they were ticked off because I moved them and soaked me in the process. Now for my question I have 2 of them dancing around 1 and the other one is just minding its own business. Is the "dancing" a sort of mating ritual or what. Whether it is a mating ritual or not it is pretty to watch them anyway. They have all they need if they do spawn in there but if that is what it is I am shocked since I just put them in their new permanent home last night. |

| its probably a dominace thing and establishing a tank order, or their pH was different than the tank they came from...have you tested both ph's? angels are super sensitive to a drastic change in ph ...ahem i think we need pics! |

| All water parameters are the same...I checked twice before I moved them. The reason I thought it might be mating was because it was like they were showing off to the other fish not each other and the fourth fish was just off checking out some plants.
I know about the pics...I tried last night for over an hour but I am still on dialup here. I think my laptop and I will have to make a trip to my sisters where I can get wireless or DSL so I can upload some pics. But do keep in mind I am not good with pics!! |

| Well Monday is major maintenance day here. All my tanks seem to stay between 7.2 and 7.8 on ph usually right in the middle of that color chart between the two. I just went and checked my log book to be sure. I also stopped by to see what they were doing now and it was like one of them tried to run me off with sort of a dirty look kinda thing. Yes I know they are fish but they can give dirty looks or at least mine can. I appreciate the offer on uploading for me but you are right it would take me just as long to email them as to upload I am afraid. |

| Sherry I know what you mean about them dancing around. Some times angels will stiffin their fins out and shimmy or dance around to look bigger and badder to the other fish. Now that you've added more to the 90g they will have to decide who's the boss. Along with lip locking this is also how they pick mates.
As long as there's no damage done to anybody I personally wouldn't bother them. They can be really funny sometimes
Also I have had angels spawn right after moving them to another tank. Have even used that to encourage them to spawn. Storms (changing barometric pressure) and large water changes (spring rains) will trigger a spawn at my house just about every time. This also works for Corys and BN if their being stubborn.

Congrats on getting 4 of Annas Koi. I got two, hope their a pair |

| Well if storms encourage them to spawn my house will be over run with all kinds of babies! Carol your 4 babies got their own tank and they are checking it out too. They all have places to hide (caves and rocks) live plants, and all the goodies. I have also decided that you cannot fill an angelfish up...they would eat constantly if you let them. Dang I think I hijacked my own thread. HEE HEE No spawning though but some some very pretty "dancing" going on. |

| Update on the angels. Well along with the dancing we now have two cleaning a piece of slate rock very well apparently I did not do a good enough job. They also will not let the other two near the rock they have claimed as their own. No fights they just chase them away. I try to watch them from a little further away because they look kind of annoyed if I get too close. It is also STILL stormy here so we shall see. |

| Sounds like a pair trying to keep the others from their chosen spawn site. If they are cleaning off a piece of slate then I'd say you should have eggs soon. Probably today. Did the dancing look kinda like they were flexing their muscles? like quick flares to show "I'm big and tough and you don't want to mess with me"? |

| Kinda looked like a guy showing out for a girl thing to me. But it was obvious that they were not letting the other two fish near "their" rock. |

Carol | I got four sunsets and they are beautiful. I believe I see more fin development every day now. They are even getting more color. They have their own tank 29 gal for now and slate rocks and slate caves to hide out in. I put blue gravel in with them and it made the colors really come out. I just love them. Thank you so much. |

Course the way that one keeps eyeballing me when I go near the tank he/she may just attack me if I reach in there.
Oh one more thing just how long does it take to clean a slate rock I swear there is nothing on it but they are still picking.
He/she also got a little nippy with one of the other two that came just a wee bit to close to their slate rock. No problems thank goodness but I will be watching to see if I need to take the other two out.
Yeah I did beat them to it on the intake cover HA 1 for me this time. I will keep you posted. |

| they could do this for days lol...and they can spawn 3-4 times before they get it right also..if they do spawn tho, at least you know you have a pair if the eggs are creamy white/tan !! if they are all white, you could have 2 gals that dont realize they need a man in their life LOL |

They "let" me feed them but other than that I seem to be getting dirty looks from the one that I think is a boy. |

| LOL the father of your new baby angels came out of the water after my hand. All I was doing was getting a floating leaf out they can hit hard enough to sting if their big but never had one do any damage.

carol | I am so glad I read that after I did the water change. I stuck my pinky in first to see if there would be anything left of it and when I saw it was still there I did my job as fast as I could. They definitley did not like my big ole arm in there taking out their water and they did not like me putting more water back in. If looks could kill I know where I would be right now. I tried to stay away from their rock but now they are back at it cleaning it like I threw mud on it or something. Can you tell I am having fun with these new guys? |

| LOL..I think they are suppose to be great moms and dads too...The reason I'm asking is because I'm going to be picking up a breeding pair of Zebra Angels this saturday..lol.. I just didn't know if you were planning on leaving the babies with the mom and dad to raise or putting them in a grow out tank?? I'm not not too experienced with babies and it sounds like you are..lol.. |

I am about to start a new post and you will see where the babies will be going if any survive...and the plot thickens...lol. |

| Well still no eggs. I have four fish in here two on one end of the tank and two on the other end. They are liplocking and some occasional pecks in there too. It looks like the two on one end are against the two on the other end. Do I need to pull two of these out or what. Nobody is hurt and no fins nipped but I would like it to stay that way.
There is not a divider in this tank they have separated themselves. |
