Jewel 10gal

I picked up a 10gal and stand on friday and did a quick 2 day cycle. Readings good today so my Jewels have just gone in. Pretty basic, just a cave and a couple of plants with sand substrate. They'll have a vacation there until they spawn, and then they'll be back to the 90gal. I haven't spawned Jewels before so it'll be a new experience! I'll post pics as things progress!

WOW! I love the look of this tank! Even though it may only be a spawning tank, it looks pretty cool. What kind of tank is it?

Good luck with your spawn! Can't wait to see some pics!

It's an AquaOne 126. Cost $70 for the entire set-up, including matching stand, so all in all quite a good deal. The Jewels have spawned before in the 90gal, but the fry had no chance with the Oscar, JD, and Convicts!

Aren't Jewels parental fish?

I'd figure they would aggressively defend the fry.

They tryed to, but they can't defend against the Oscar, he's way bigger than them. And whilst they were defendig against one fish, others would start snacking!

How big are your jewels?

I have 2 jewels around 2 1/2-3" long. I had them in a 55 gallon along with 2 salvini's around the same length . it was fairly calm in there but the salvinis were boss. Then the salvini's decided to spawn and i had to remove the poor little jewels. I put the jewels in my 75 with 2 -5" oscars and a 7" silver dollar.Everything was fine again and they all got along with no chasing or anything. well today the jewels decided to spawn .Now the jewels are terrorizing the oscars and the silver dollar. The jewels have become as aggressive the salvini's i think.
