Standard intake grate OK for molly babies

I got two black molly's that are suddenly become very square and don't want the babies to get sucked up into the filter grates which seem small enough right? I have plenty of hiding places.

Depends on how big the grate is ... you can tie some sort of light material to the grate holes to stop this from happening. Some of the filter floss might do the trick.

put something over the grates if you are worried some of your good ladies nylons will do it, but in fairness most healthy fry are more than strong enough to swim against the pull of a filter

Thanks, all my water numbers are pH 7.6; Amm 0; Nitr 0; but Nitra spiked to 10 with this recent tank move which put my plant filter into shock for a couple days. I have two female black molly's first that were not pregnant then later two male sailfin platinum molly's and they have been courting for 2.5 months strait and while the black molly's were getting bigger and rounder now suddenly their bottoms look like cargo ships so big that their black has changed to silver as the scales are stretching. Look like I got the 120 just in time to move my bigger fish to it ASAP.

I used the mesh of an old aquarium fish net wit a rubber band but I heard some people use here a piece of pantyhose.
Hope this help you Gunner.

Thanks. I suppose Ill be taking them to the fish store at some point depending on if they can hold there own and I can see them to squirt them some food with the baster. I really wasn't planning on this, diden't even know they were female till I got the males. Platinum and Blacks will probubly make what? Dalmatians?

Well Gunner the only thing i can tell you is that if you have mollies or platy's they are like rabbits every month or so I have a prego female. Is hard sometimes cuz you gotta be watching to put her on the breeder tank sometimes for a week until she drop the babies. As for right now I have 4 Creamcycle Lyretail babies. 2 Mickey Mouse platy and 5 black and orange mollies. i already put the Lyretails on the big tank they are about an inch so they can take care for themselves. Later.

nylon hose or filter media works really well with a rubber band, just keep an eye on the impeller, you may have some problems down the road if you're not getting enough water in there.
